Oh
give me a home where the buffalo roam...
The deer are running in huge
herds now, some of them number in the hundreds. They feed in the
evenings and at night. The first photo shows a couple of them that
forgot to go to bed - it was mid-morning, March 23, 2006. We figure
there must be over a thousand in the district. There's some pretty deep
snow for them to paw through. And it has a crust on top.
These buffalo weren't roaming. Why
would they want to?
...
and the deer and the antelope play
where
seldom is heard a discouraging word
and the skies are not cloudy all day
There were and are a lot of
grain
piles in the fields most of the winter. Donald is following a
well-beaten deer path to where one pile of wheat had been. The deer
like to clean up what's left. We were looking for racks of antlers that
the bucks might have shed.
There might have been some under
the snow. If so, they're likely still there.
A well-pawed patch of snow and
ground.
