Cumberland
House Reserve School - 1981
This
page is intended for the students there today, in your modern new
school. Our school then had two classrooms,
with students in grades one to nine.
As you might guess though, it wasn't all work and no play...
Hard
working scholars one and all. Wonder who they are... Sorry, but you
won't learn their names from this Web page, because...
... anyone in the photos will be able to identify the crew , and for
those of you who weren't around Cumberland House Reserve School in 1981
... maybe you can get hold of somebody who will clue you in ... Today's
students can find out the names from parents, grandparents, and other
relatives I'm sure ... Just bring them to school and sit them down in
front of a computer and you shall learn :=)
(Rough looking pair of guys below and to the right!)
What
on earth is going on here? An outdoor bannock cooking-and-eating party!
...
Hey, what kind of school is this anyway?
The
weather is nice ... I can hardly wait for my turn.
(Name all this gang and you win a million dollars - counterfeit
monopoly money that is - heh) ...
...
If you're from the Cumberland House First Nation school, start naming
us ... Prove how smart you are ... your parents will be proud of
you ...
Let's see, it's only 2007 now, so
first grab
your calculators and figure out how long ago that delicious bannock was
gulped down by that hungry horde ... seems like yesterday ... Just
thinking about it makes my mouth water ...
...
I
can almost taste it ... feel like driving all the way to
Cumberland just for the fresh bannock I might run across ...
Some
of you may have heard about the outdoor rink we built beside the school
that winter... Maybe we didn't always wear skates - but blades or
no blades, it was really fun ...
Why,
we had women hockey players long before a lot of the rest of the world
caught on. And
now it's commonplace; good thing we showed them how :=)
Actually,
we all played hockey together - no gender discrimination in our outfit!
Some of those girls didn't mind playing a bit rough when they had to
(ouch) ...
The
bus driver is waiting... or is he maybe on the ice playing shinny?
Note: The photos will all print out at
roughly the size of the large ones on these pages. If you want larger
copies, e-mail me at lmattson928@hotmail.com
and I might take it on as a winter project.
These two pages contain about half the photos on
hand. Most of the rest can be posted after I've
put up a page for Red Earth, where, thanks to H.H., I got the encouragement to do online
pages of recent
school history.
